1. Why You Need a Secure Password Reset
Your Rajasthan Single Sign-On (SSO) account holds sensitive personal data, including your educational records, property details, utility bills, and potentially financial information linked through eMitra or Jan Aadhaar. Therefore, if you forget your password, the government portal requires a secure verification process before allowing you to create a new one.
Forgetting a password is a common occurrence, especially given the recommendation to use complex, hard-to-guess passwords. The Rajasthan government has provided multiple digital avenues to reset your password without requiring you to visit an IT department or Helpdesk in person. This guide details all the available methods so you can regain access quickly.
2. What You Need to Reset Your Password
Unlike recovering an SSO ID where you don't know your username, to reset a password, you MUST know your SSO ID. The system needs to know which account's password it is resetting. If you have forgotten your SSO ID as well, please read our SSO ID Recovery Guide first.
In addition to your SSO ID, you will need access to one of the following verification methods that are linked to your account:
- The registered mobile number (to receive an SMS OTP).
- The registered email address (to receive a reset link or OTP).
- Your Jan Aadhaar number or Aadhaar number (for biometric or Aadhaar-linked mobile OTP verification).
3. Step-by-Step: Reset via Mobile OTP
This is the most direct and frequently used method to change a forgotten password.
- Open your web browser and navigate to the official Rajasthan SSO login page:
sso.rajasthan.gov.in/signin. - Underneath the "Login" button, click on the link that says "Forgot Password ? Click Here".
- A new page dedicated to password recovery will load.
- In the first input field labeled "Digital Identity (SSOID)", type in your exact username.
- Below that, you will see radio buttons to select your recovery method. Select the Mobile option.
- Enter your 10-digit registered mobile number in the adjacent field.
- Carefully type the captcha code displayed in the image into the captcha box.
- Click the "Submit" button.
- The system will send a One Time Password (OTP) via SMS to your phone.
- Enter the 6-digit OTP into the verification box on your screen and click "Verify".
- Once verified, the screen will prompt you to enter a New Password and then Confirm New Password.
- Type your new, strong password twice and click "Submit" or "Update". Your password has been successfully reset.
4. Step-by-Step: Reset via Email Address
If you don't have your phone handy, or if the SMS network is delayed, the email method is highly reliable.
- Go to the SSO login page and click on "Forgot Password ? Click Here".
- Enter your SSO ID in the first field.
- Select the Email option from the recovery methods.
- Enter the email address exactly as it is registered in your SSO profile.
- Enter the captcha code and click "Submit".
- Open a new browser tab or your email app and log into your email account.
- Look for an email from the SSO portal. If you don't see it in your Inbox, check the Spam or Promotions folder.
- The email will either contain an OTP to enter on the website, or a direct link to reset your password.
- If it's a link, click it. You will be taken to a secure page where you can directly type and confirm your new password.
5. Step-by-Step: Reset via Jan Aadhaar / Aadhaar
This method provides a high level of security by linking directly to the state or national identity databases.
- On the SSO "Forgot Password" page, enter your SSO ID.
- Select either the Jan Aadhaar or Aadhaar option.
- Enter the respective 12-digit Aadhaar number or the 10-digit Jan Aadhaar number.
- Enter the captcha and click "Submit".
- If you selected Aadhaar, you will usually receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to your UIDAI Aadhaar card (which might be different from the one linked only to SSO).
- If you selected Jan Aadhaar, the OTP goes to the head of the family's registered number.
- Enter the received OTP to verify your identity.
- You will then be granted access to the password reset screen to create your new password.
Offline SMS Reset Method
You can also reset your password via SMS if you remember your SSO ID. Send an SMS from your registered mobile number in this format: RJ SSO PASSWORD <your_sso_id> to the number 9223166166. The system will reset your password to a random string and text it back to you. You should log in with that temporary password and immediately change it to something secure.
6. Tips for Creating a Strong New Password
To ensure your account is protected against unauthorized access or hacking attempts, the portal enforces strict password policies. When creating your new password, ensure it meets these criteria:
- Length: It must be at least 8 characters long (up to a maximum of 30 characters).
- Complexity: It must contain at least one uppercase letter (A-Z), one lowercase letter (a-z), one number (0-9), and one special character (such as @, #, $, %, ^, &, *).
- Unpredictability: Do not use your name, date of birth, mobile number, or sequential numbers like "12345" in your password.
- Uniqueness: Try not to use the exact same password you use for your personal email or social media accounts.
7. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1: How many times can I attempt to reset my password?
Answer: There is usually a limit to how many OTPs you can request within a specific timeframe (e.g., 3 attempts per hour) to prevent spamming. If you exceed the limit, you may have to wait 24 hours before trying again.
Q2: The OTP is not arriving on my phone. What should I do?
Answer: Network delays are the most common cause. Wait at least 2-3 minutes before requesting another OTP. Ensure your inbox is not full and that you haven't blocked promotional SMS messages (DND services sometimes block automated government texts, though they shouldn't). If SMS fails repeatedly, switch to the Email recovery method.
Q3: I reset my password successfully, but it still says "Invalid Credentials".
Answer: First, ensure your keyboard's Caps Lock is off and you are typing the new password exactly as you set it. If it still fails, it's possible your browser has cached an old password. Try clearing your browser's cache/cookies or attempt to log in using an "Incognito" or "Private Browsing" window.
Q4: Can I reset the password for my Government Employee (SIPF) SSO ID this way?
Answer: While the basic mechanism is similar, Government Employees often have their SSO ID tied directly to their SIPF portal. You may need to select the "Govt. Employee" tab during the recovery process, or in some cases, reset your password directly on the SIPF portal first, which syncs with the SSO portal.
